Off the Wall Artists

Are you looking for an affordable,  contemplative space to paint or draw or just play with paint,  colour, paper etc.  with like minded friends?  Art is a universal language.

About this Circle

Regardless of gender, race or ethnic background, people use similar lines and colors to express the same emotions. We all have the ability to tap our inner resources and make meaningful pictures that will help enrich our bodies, minds and spirits, and enhance our lives.  By practicing an art form creatively, we become more able to live and work creatively in everyday ways.

Join this visual arts group which meets Thursdays from 1 to 4 p.m. in a welcoming space with great light. You do not need experience to join this wonderful group.  Members share their experiments, explorations and learnings with one another.

Mentor: Esther Scanlon

I have participated in the CFCL community since 2016 – first on the Steering Committee, then participant in the photography and art groups and now as a Mentor to the art group – a natural next step.

I have always loved art and art making (“arting”). In 2022, an unexpected early retirement due to injuries from a traumatic car collision opened time and space to immerse myself much more fully in art.  I completed the Art Therapy Practitioner certification through the Canadian International Institute of Art Therapy.  I have taken workshops including at the Loyalist Summer School of the Arts and courses at Ottawa School of the Arts. Also, I am an alumni of Louise Fletcher’s Find Your Joy and Momentum programs and Nicholas Wilton’s Creative Visionary Program. I enjoy exploring acrylic, oil, watercolour, and many other media including collage.  The result is that I have discovered that I am a mixed media artist.

As an artist I feel that it is equally important to spend time alone in my own studio as well as in communities of artists who support each other.  The world needs art and artists, and when we gather in groups such as CFCL, it is meaningful to share our art journeys. I welcome the opportunity to be a mentor to and to be mentored by the CFCL artists.

NOTE: Only members of the Centre can register for circles.
